September 13, 2006
For many years, Roquette has been involved in the research, conception and manufacture of food products, and particularly of ingredients that promote better health. Such development has been driven by an ethic of prevention of health problems and the resolve to accompany national and international nutritional concerns. NUTRIOSE® and MALTISORB® are good illustrations of this commitment.
The current increase in obesity, particularly in children, is a major concern in many countries, among them France, which has established a nationwide programme for the prevention of obesity. Roquette's sponsorship of the EPODE programme is another recent illustration of our determination to contribute to concrete action on nutrional subjects.
The EPODE ("Together Let’s Prevent Childhood Obesity») program is an association initiative sponsored by learned societies and national institutions, which aims to conduct educational and training actions in the fight against childhood obesity and help overweight children on the basis of scientific recommendations. The promoter of this program is the Dietary Habits and Weight Observatory (Fleurbaix Laventie Healthy City Association, based in Northern France).
EPODE (www.epode.fr) concerns over 10 pilot French cities mobilized in the prevention of childhood obesity through concrete, local actions. Sensitized to this very current public health problem of the increase in the prevalence of childhood obesity, the Flandre Lys community of communes (www.cc-flandrelys.fr, made up of communes in Northern France - Estaires, Fleurbaix, Haverskerque, Laventie, La Gorgue, Lestrem and Merville -) has joined the EPODE program.
Roquette supports this program
Backed at the national level by the APS (Health Insurers) and companies of an international standing such as Nestlé, this EPODE program also needs the backing and economic involvement of regional partners.
This is why Roquette has committed itself to supporting this program by sponsorizing it via the Flandres Lys community of communes, thus seeing its logo appear on their brochures alongside logos as prestigious, for example, as those of the French Pediatric Society.
As a manufacturer of nutritional ingredients which can be included in foods intended to prevent overweight and obesity, Roquette thus demonstrates its desire to contribute in its way to the addressing of public health concerns.
