The replacement of sucrose by polyols in sweets and chewing gums has been playing a significant role in the prevention of cavities.

According to Pr. Dr. Guggenheim, all polyols are equivalent when it comes to fighting cavities.


Prof. Dr. Bernhard Guggenheim
is Professor and director of the Institute for Oral Biology, University of Zürich, Switzerland. He is the author of more than 140 original papers and 4 reference books, and member of the Editorial board Oral biosciences and Medicine.

Prof. Dr. Thomas N. Imfeld is Professor at Dental Institute, University of Zürich, Switzerland, Department of Cariology, Periodontology and Preventive Dentistry. He is the author of various scientific publications, including 'Identification of Low Caries Risk Dietary Components', a reference book published in 1983 (S. KARGER).
