A sugar substitute made from vegetable resources
MALTISORB
® maltitol is a cereal-derived sugar substitute of the polyol family. Many polyols occur naturally in various fruits and vegetables. MALTISORB
® maltitol is created by the hydrogenation of maltose, a sugar obtained directly from cereals.
Effective nutritional properties
Tooth decay, weight management, reduced carbs, obesity, diabetes: words like these highlight some of today's key health concerns, reflecting the increasing pressures on consumers to focus on health maintenance and disease prevention. In this context, the WHO/FAO is recommending that between 55% and 65% of energy be provided by carbohydrates, but with no more than 20% coming from simple sugars (such as sugar or glucose).
With MALTISORB® maltitol, Roquette offers you a safe sugar substitute that not only readily replaces the sugars in your traditional products but also offers effective nutritional benefits:
Suitability for carbohydrate-controlled dieting: due to a low glycemic response and a slow-cal pattern MALTISORB® maltitol reduces food cravings and converts fewer carbs to fat. Useful in the formulation of low sugars products, it appeals to all weight-conscious people, including diabetics and low-carb dieters.
Reduced-calorie sweetener: up to 75% and 50% fewer calories than fat and sugar respectively, MALTISORB® maltitol allows better management of energy load.
Fat reduction: in certain applications such as chocolate, MALTISORB® maltitol does not require more fat than sugar to obtain the desired viscosity, unlike some other sugar substitutes.
Non-cariogenicity: MALTISORB
® maltitol is safe for the teeth. This means you can formulate products to conform to the scientific criteria allowing the use of:
- the International Toothfriendly Association logo,
- the FDA's 'does not promote tooth decay' health claim,
provided they do not contain other fermentable or acidic products.
The reliability of research
Over more than thirty years almost 200 comprehensive studies conducted by a range of different scientific research organizations have demonstrated the health benefits of maltitol.
Roquette has been an active member of this scientific community. Scientific reviews and symposia have frequently reported on the clinical studies undertaken on maltitol in connection with the glycemic index, cariogenicity, caloric value, digestibility and other dietetic issues.
Roquette entrusts its clinical studies to renowned university and hospital research teams and to well-known laboratories specializing in health nutrition (INRA, INSERM, Hôtel-Dieu in Paris, University of Salford, Zurich Dental Institute). The protocols and the results obtained are published in scientific journals.
Today, Roquette's clinical research efforts are continuing to explore MALTISORB
® maltitol's nutritional opportunities and their usefulness to consumers.
The science driving these efforts has one key objective: to provide your customers with products that are both safe and reliable and meet their nutritional concerns effectively.
